Eatonia Resident Inducted
into
Hockey Hall of Fame

Oh what a night!! On April 28, 2008 I was fortunate enough to
get inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. A big thanks goes out to
Melanie Rudy who nominated me for the RBC Local Hockey Leaders award
for volunteers of hockey and hockey rinks. I can hardly believe
that someone would take time to write an essay and answer questions
about myself. So a big thank-you to you, Mel.
To our recreation director, Nicole Galarneau, thank-you for your
unlimited amount of time spent at the rink and setting up of
meetings. You always make me look good! To Jason Hennes, Derek
Galarneau, Brad Rudy and all the rest of the volunteers who always
help put the ice in the rink you all never cease to amaze me.
Thank-you all! To all the surrounding communities thank-you for
your support in this special award for myself and my community. To
the RBC, thank-you for having such an award where our rink can
benefit from the awarding of $10,000.00 in my name to the rink.
Thank-you to Luis Leon, RBC bank manager in Kindersley, for taking
time out in your day to present me with this award. To my Dad and
Mom, thank-you for teaching me that being a volunteer always pays
off. To my brothers and sister, thank-you for letting me do what I
do and leaving my job at home. Last, but never least, to my wife
Rhonda, children Steven and Randi, thank-you for letting me go to
the rink at night to fix whatever it was that was wrong, putting on
a flood for tomorrow and even missing your sports to fix the ice
plant. To all the little boys and girls that make me laugh at the
rink each and every year this is why I do what I do.
So in closing thank-you to everyone that has impacted me in my
life. Keep your head up out there on the ice and remember whatever
your are, be a good one. THANK-YOU EATONIA AND SURROUNDING
COMMUNITIES. YOU ARE TOTALLY AWESOME!!!
Yours in hockey, Sam Somerville (HHOF)
