On Friday night, in the first game of the Admirals history at the Centennial Sports Centre, Asquith welcomed the Edam 3 Stars. In an ending fit for the evening, the home team won 6-2.
Linden McCorrister scored the first ever home goal for the Admirals for a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes. Talon Thomas and McCorrister (shorthanded) extended the lead to 3-0 before Keegan Tiringer cut the lead late in the period to 3-1, which held after two periods. J.J. Urquhart and Thomas scored just a minute apart in the early part of the third for a 5-1 Admirals lead. Josh Longstaff would score to make it 5-2, but a shorthanded goal from Caleb Grandfield completely sealed the victory.
Kyle Barron stopped 39 of 45 shots in the loss, while Carter Woodside stopped 33 of 35 shots in the win
On Saturday night, it was Edam’s turn for their home opener, welcoming the Macklin Mohawks into town. They were rude hosts though, winning 5-0.
Goals were scored by Damon Schaefer, Keegan Tiringer, and Brayden Buziak (3).
Travor Martin stopped 36 of 41 shots in the loss, while Taryn Kotchorek stopped all 28 shots in the win.

On Friday night, the Unity Miners headed south for an old Wild Goose matchup against the Kerrobert Tigers. Unity came away with the 7-4 victory.
The Miners came out hot, with a goal from Mark Ganter. About 10 minutes later, Dustin McAleer would extend that lead to 2-0 after one period. Carter Acton would further extend the lead in the 2nd, before Rylan Borschneck would get the Tigers on the board. Matt Mitchell would cut the lead to 3-2, but Alex David restored the two-goal advantage. M. Mitchell and Avery Cholin each scored a minute apart to tie the game up at 4 after 40 minutes. It was all Miners in the 3rd as Joel Timmermans would score twice in 10 seconds. McAleer would tie a bow on the win with a shorthanded, empty net goal.
Ryan Rewerts stopped 33 of 37 shots in the win, while Tyson Borschneck stopped 36 of 43 shots in the loss.
Also on Friday, the Rosetown Redwings played host to the Kindersley Kodiaks. Rosetown won in convincing fashion 7-1.
Colby Kozicki opened the scoring on the power play, but Walker Doetzel and Kyle Ireland would respond for a 2-1 Rosetown lead after one period. The Redwings took over after that, with Kayden Ostrom, Corban Hogan, Jordan Johnston (11th of the year), and John Hill (1st of the year) all scoring, giving Rosetown the 6-1 lead after two periods. Colt Cross would tack one on in the third.
Kaden Elliot stopped 14 of 21 shots in the loss, while John Kampen stopped 14 of 15 shots in the win.
On Saturday night, in a marquee matchup, the Rosetown Redwings and Dodsland Stars battled it out. It was the Stars coming away with a 4-1 win.
The Stars controlled the first period, with goals from Troy Joyce, Jon McDonald, Derek Smith and Riley Dipple within a 10-minute span, giving Dodsland the 4-0 lead. No scoring was reported in the middle frame, with Kayden Ostrom breaking up the shutout with 8 minutes left in the game.
Noah Martens stopped 57 of 61 shots in the loss, while Kyle Turk stopped 18 of 19 in the win.
History Lesson
We’re looking at the 1992-93 Wild Goose season this time, mainly for the All-Star game played in Kerrobert that year. The North Division and South Division picked their top 6-7 players from each team (Wilkie, Unity, Macklin, Kerrobert, Kindersley, and Eston) to fill out the rosters. Guys include; Roydon Gunn (Unity), Kim Bosch (Macklin), Robin Bartel (Wilkie), Tim Willoughby (Kerrobert), Dan Leier (Kindersley), and Brent Penner (Eston). The addition of Gunn for Unity made a difference as they finished on top with a 22-7-1 record in 30 games played, followed by the Kerrobert Tigers with a 20-9-1 record. These two teams met in the final, with research indicating the Tigers winning the series 3-2. Side note; Roydon Gunn played three years for the Prince Albert Raiders of the Western Hockey League and even tried out for the Canada Olympic team instead of Cleveland of the IHL but did not make it.
