Honkings from the Wild Goose: At the Break
With both the Sask West Hockey League and the Cross Roads Hockey League officially in their holiday breaks, we will spend some time looking at all kinds of stats, but first, a look at the remaining games.
Cross Roads
On Tuesday night, the Kindersley Kodiaks played host to the Kerrobert Tigers. The Tigers came away with a 4-2 win.
Taylor Neumeier and Seth Krahn traded goals in the ladder half of the opening frame for a 1-1 draw after 20 minutes. Rhett Dimitroff would score just a minute into the 2nd for a 2-1 Kodiaks lead. With just under nine minutes left, Logan Wack would pot his 1st of the year to tie it back up at 2, and Matthew Roblin would give the Tigers the 3-2 lead after two periods. Neumeier would add an insurance marker at the midway point of the 3rd to round out the scoring.
Tyson Borschneck stopped 19 of 21 shots in the win, while Kaden Elliott stopped 32 of 36 shots in the loss.
Also on Tuesday, the Unity Miners headed south for a duel with the Luseland Mallards, with Unity coming away with the 7-5 win.
Koby Reiber (on the power play) and Kyle Heintz gave Luseland the 2-0 lead, but Justin Gerein would cut the lead in half after 20 minutes. Hunter Sperle scored the only goal of the 2nd for a 2-2 tie after 40 minutes. The floodgates opened in the third, with Heintz (on the power play) for a 3-2 Mallards lead. Nash Sperle and Colby Ralston would pot goals just 20 seconds apart for a 4-3 Miners lead. Justin Fischer would tie it right back up about a minute after that. Brayden Schultz and Dustin McAleer continued the goal parade, putting the Miners up 6-4. Heintz would pull Luseland within one, but Schultz would secure the win with a late empty net goal.
Ryan Rewerts takes the win, stopping 37 of 42 shots, while Sam Walz stopped 38 of 44 shots in the loss.
History Lesson
If you are of a certain age, you’d check out the Saskatoon Star Phoenix each day for the page with all the scores from every league you could ever imagine. That page had a name, called ‘Agate’. In the spirit of the times, we’ll do a simplified agate.
