History Lesson
We’re going to look at the 1986-87 Wild Goose Hockey League season, focusing on the December 22nd standings update. In the 8-team league, we had Battleford (8-3-3), Unity and Wilkie (7-4-2), Kindersley (5-4-4), Kerrobert (6-6-0), Lloydminster (4-5-4), Eston (4-6-3), and Rosetown (1-10-2). The number of ties is astounding, as well as games played. Top 5 leading scorers were; Rob Evans, Kindersley (15-17-32); Ray Gregorash, Kindersley (21-10-31); Tim Hodgson, Battleford (7-17-24); Randy Carson, Battleford (13-9-22); and Kim Bosch, Unity (16-6-22). Top Goaltenders were Tim Syzda... wait a minute Star Phoenix agate writer, I think you messed that up. I’m quite confident he means Mark Syzda of the Wilkie Outlaws with a 3.72 GAA, followed by Joe Humphreys of the Eston Ramblers with a 3.80 GAA. Other guys mentioned: Bob Dougall (Battleford), Mike Bloski (Kindersley), Mike Winther (Kerrobert), Dave Keith (Rosetown) and Gary Leach (Lloydminster).
